WILMINGTON, N.C. -- A judge sentenced 47-year-old Douglas Edwards to at least 80 years in prison Thursday for the kidnapping, sexual assault and attempted murder of a 6-year-old
During the sentencing phase, the victim’s mother was very emotional as she made a victim impact statement to the court saying this has been a difficult year for the child and the family.
The now 7-year-old girl testified via Skype earlier in the week. She recalled the events that left her chained to a tree in the woods off of River Road last year.
In court, Edwards testified he had no memory of the abduction but said he did chain the girl to the tree.
