RALEIGH -- Students at Enloe High School are rallying behind one of their own. They want a student who died last summer to be honored with her class at graduation.

However the school denied their request. A petition for it is gaining much attention on Change.org.

  • Rachel Rosoff died last fall after being shocked by an electrical current. She later drowned.
  • As of now, she is not being honored at graduation, but at senior night.
  • WCPSS says no policy for requests like this exist.

Enloe High school graduation is scheduled for June 10, and Rachel Rosoff will not be in attendance.

In an exclusive interview, her mother, Michelle, simply wants her daughter remembered.

Rachel Rosoff died last September after being shocked by an electrical current. She drowned in a pool where she was lifeguarding.

Jordana Rosoff, Rachel's younger sister, recently started a petition that has garnished over 3,000 signatures.

The goal is to have Rachel remembered with a moment of silence during graduation.

Wake County Public Schools said today that no policy for such requests exists, and while Rosoff isn't being honored at commencement, she is at senior night.

Her mother Michelle says this is more heartache for her grieving family.

"My heart is broken twice, over again.  It is like a punch in the stomach.  And I don't for the life of me know how anybody can support that.  It's really like spitting in my face, and like you know what, your kid, she's really not that important. It's not about being strong.  It's not about being on the news.  It's about doing what's right.  It's just right."
