SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: A long forgotten piece of New York State's Civil War history is being brought back to life this summer in Elmira. In 1864, Elmira housed a prison camp, where nearly 3,000 Confederate soldiers died. All that remained of the 30-acre camp was one building, which was taken apart and put into storage. Over the past four years, the "Friends of the Elmira Civil War Prison Camp" have worked to reconstruct the building and put it back in its original grounds. That process is now almost complete and will be open to the public just in time for an upcoming Civil War re-enactment. Those involved say it's important for the community and its visitors to be educated on what happened there. The re-enactment and tour will be held June 24-25.
