Authorities are investigating a deadly dispute involving two state corrections officers Tuesday.
Police say at about 6:30 a.m., a female officer fired her weapon at another officer who was inside a car at the Queens Borough correctional facility.
Witnesses say they heard about five gunshots at that time.
Surveillance video shows the male officer running from the shooter.
Sources say the man was able to safely lock himself inside of the correctional facility.
Police say the female officer then shot and killed herself.
"He's zig-zagging, I guess trying to avoid the shots. And that's all I see then you see a few people open their doors, getting scared then closing there doors. He crosses over here, runs that way and she's running after him. And then two minutes later, you see a C.O. officer chasing them in uniform. They were both not in uniform," said one witness.
The status of their relationship is unclear.
The New York State department of corrections and community supervision says the facility was never compromised during the shooting.
