LELAND, N.C. - A police officer is cleared of wrongdoing in a deadly shooting on December 9.
On Wednesday, the district attorney said Officer Jacob Schwenk was justified when he exchanged gunfire with and killed Brent Quinn while responding to a disturbance call in the Windsor Park Community.
Jon David also said Schwenk should be commended.
"Not only are Officer Schwenk's actions legally justified, they're heroic. This man did exactly what his training and experience taught him to do. Instinct kicked in and despite having suffered six gunshot wounds, he was able to produce his weapon, fire upon the suspect, and even reload in the course of this firefight," said District Attorney Jon David.
The DA also said it's unclear what caused Quinn to open fire, but that he may have consumed an extensive amount of alcohol.
Schwenk is out of the hospital and still recovering from the shooting.
