CHAPEL HILL -- The Hillary Clinton campaign brought some presidential star power to North Carolina, Wednesday.

Thousands came out to see President Barack Obama at UNC- Chapel Hill, as he encouraged North Carolinans to vote, vote early, and vote for Hillary Clinton.

He is one of Hillary Clinton's secret weapons in these final days of the election cycle. A master campaigner himself, he is working to bring that enthusiasm to Clinton at the polls.

Carolina certainly is on the minds of the presidential candidates and their supporters. The get out and vote and rallying cries are constant and loud.

The thousands of supporters who were waiting in line for hours to see President Barack Obama in Chapel Hill on Wednesday were fired up for election day.

Obama states, “And there is only one person in this race, who has devoted her entire life to lifting up a better America. And that is the next President of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton."

President Obama was able to do what no other Democratic nominee had done in North Carolina in decades, he won the vote here in 2008.

He wants Hillary Clinton to follow in his footsteps this year.

“And we don't win this election, potentially, if we don't win North Carolina. And so I hate to put a little pressure on you, the fate of the republic rests on your shoulder."

The Clinton campaign is fighting tightening poll numbers in these final days of the campaign season. They say North Carolina is an important part of their strategy to bring home a victory next week.

“We absolutely think the race is still within reach. We always knew this race would be close and remain close up until election day. And so we are fighting for every vote,” says Christina Reynolds, Clinton’s Deputy Communications Director.

And President Obama says he is ready to keep up that fight to get Hillary Clinton in the White House.

“Choose hope, choose hope, vote. And if you do, we will elect Hillary Clinton as the next president.”

This stop by the President is just round one for him. He has 2 more stops here in North Carolina this week.

Donald Trump has 2 stops here Thursday, as does Hillary Clinton, including one stop with Bernie Sanders in Raleigh.

A busy final few days of this election season.
