NATIONWIDE -- President Barack Obama named 21 recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Wednesday.

The medal is the nation's highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made great contributions to the United States in science, athletics, art and other endeavors.

The list included well-known names like Charlotte Hornets owner and basketball legend, Michael Jordan.

Ellen Degeneres, Bill and Melinda Gates, and Cicely Tyson are also included.     

The awards will be presented at the White House, November 22.
