WILMINGTON -- Hurricane Matthew may be long gone, but its effects are still being felt in downtown Wilmington. All of the water it dumped on inland counties is now running downstream, straight through the port city. Businesses had to tape up their doors and place sandbags outside to stop the water from coming indoors. But that still didn’t help everyone. Some people we spoke with said the flood waters came under the doors.

"I've been here for 15 years and never saw water come over the sidewalks, never,” said Debbie Stuber, R&D Designs.

The National Weather Service cancelled the flood warning Thursday afternoon and things have dried up significantly downtown.
