MCAS Cherry Point, NC - Thursday marks the 75th anniversary for Marine Corp Air Station Cherry Point and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.
The relationship between both commands started back in 1941.
Cherry Point was established in August and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing was activated that same year in July in San Diego, California.
The wing was then relocated to Cherry Point to conduct operations during World War II.
Military officials said the base has evolved since then as it continues to support Marines and Sailors.
Military officials also said that the base was originally known as "Air Facilities Under Development at Cherry Point" back in 1941.
