NATIONWIDE -- Though southern cities are often known for their charm and hospitality, one North Carolina city has been named one of the rudest cities in America by travel publication Travel+Leisure.
Charlotte is the 14th rudest city in America, according to the list, while Raleigh was named America’s 8th friendliest city.
The results were based on Travel+Leisure’s America’s Favorite Places survey, where voters ranked big cities on many factors, one being a city’s measure of friendliness.
One of the major factors cited in Charlotte’s standing was Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
“Maybe travelers just ran into a bunch of stressed out Charlotte residents at the airport. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is an airport you definitely want to avoid in the summer,” the study said.
Taking the top spot for rudest city is Miami, with Phoenix and New York taking second and third spots, respectively.
America’s friendliest city, according to the study, is San Antonio, with Houston and Madison, Wisconsin, taking second place and third place.
