KURE BEACH, N.C. -- Environmentalists in the state are working to stop seismic blasting. They said it’s dangerous and has the potential to kill millions of marine animals along the Atlantic coast.

Several members from Environment North Carolina were out at Kure Beach Wednesday morning encouraging beach goers to sign a petition. But supporters of seismic testing disagree with their claims and believe it’s good for the economy. They said they follow all rules and regulations.

However, Environment N.C. members say they still do not think enough is being done to protect the animals.

"Whales and dolphins use sound to communicate and seismic blasting would really cause danger to them and make it difficult for them to live,” said Mackenzie Dalton, Environment N.C.

In March, President Obama banned offshore drilling on the Atlantic coast for the next five years.
