WILMINGTON -- A new policy could help downtown Wilmington streets regain their historic charm. Some bricks are close to 100 years old, sometimes making street and utility repairs a challenge. Officials said the policy will give guidelines for fixing the streets. If a street's speed limit is more than 25 miles per hour and have more than 4,000 cars each day, the street will most likely be paved. If not, then it will remain brick.
"If someone's utility service fails and they have to dig up the street to make the repair, this policy is going to give us the guidelines for how the repairs are supposed to be made,” said David Mayes, Public Services Department.
The policy will be proposed to the Wilmington city council later this year.
