CARTERET COUNTY -- About 30 students are getting the chance to dive into marine science all week long on the Crystal Coast.

As part of the Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy, children get to check out different activities ranging from seafood research to dissecting sea turtles.

On Wednesday they got to visit the Duke Marine Lab to see how drones play a role in research for habitat health, coastal erosion and marine debris.

It's a big learning opportunity that organizers said is special to have in eastern North Carolina.

Later on this week, students will be conducting field work on Carrot Island and working with animals at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.
