BEAUFORT -- The town of Beaufort is expressing concern about erosion happening at the Rachel Carson Reserve.
Officials said overwash at Bird Shoal, a barrier island adjacent to Beaufort, has become quite frequent, which they hope is not a sign of more flooding for the future.
The Division of Coastal Management said through research they have seen changes to the shoreline which shows Bird Shoal migrating closer to the reserve.
They said they will do more research throughout the summer as they monitor the western portion of the shoal.
