ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A Webster man pleaded guilty Wednesday to a hit-and-run crash on Empire Boulevard in Oct. 2015 where a man riding a bicycle was badly injured.

Ryan Pettrone pleaded guilty under a plea agreement to charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Michael Frisch was riding his bike to work in the early morning hours of Oct. 25 when he was hit by a vehicle. Frisch was found on the side of the road, across from the Delta Sonic, badly injured.

Frisch was taken to the hospital with head trauma and a small fracture on the side of the neck. He took about one month to recover enough to be discharged.

"Our family has taken a real rough hit," said Mary Frisch, Michael's wife. She was in court Wednesday to see Pettrone walk in.

"I said all I want to do is see him walk into the room.  I didn't know if I'd get to see him or not."

A few weeks after the crash, deputies acting on a tip found a badly damaged 2009 white Honda CR-V in the garage of a Wishing Well Drive home. Investigators said Pettrone refused to cooperate.

Weeks ago, sources told Time Warner Cable News that a deal between Pettrone's attorney and the District Attorney's Office was in the works.

As part of the plea deal, Pettrone will serve eight weekends in jail, probation and pay a $1,000 fine.

"At this time, I feel confident that the Sheriff's Office and our office did everything within our power to identify the person that was driving that motor vehicle, and this in fact is the best outcome," said prosecutor Ray Benitez.

Investigators who worked the case say Pettrone had two choices: Step up, or be a coward.

"Mr. Pettrone chose the second act, of being a coward," said Monroe County Undersheriff Drew Forsythe, "to leave the scene of the accident, and have Mr. Frisch fend for himself."

"I know that myself, if I would've done something like this to someone else, even if maybe it was just an animal, or a mailbox, I would've just checked and seen," said Mary Frisch.

Pettrone left court without comment. While taking the plea deal he admitted he hit Frisch and admitted he then drove away.

Michael Frisch still faces a long rehabilitation. Mary Frisch says he may show up in court, when Pettrone is sentenced.
