CHARLOTTE- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say an officer was shot in southest Charlotte.
During a news conference, Police Chief Kerr Putney said officers got a shots fired call on Honey Hill Lane around 9:45 Saturday night.
When they got to the scene, police say the suspect started shooting at them and hit Lieutenant Andy Harris.
Officers returned fire, hitting the suspect.
Chief Putney said officers found another man shot in the house when they started patrolling the scene. They say that shooting led to the initial 911 call and the man is expected to be ok.
At last check, Lt. Harris was improving after being treated at Carolinas Medical Center.
The suspect, 25-year-old Joshulae Carter, is in critical condition.
Police say Carter will faces a long list of charges when he's released.
Those charges are: three counts of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm, two counts of Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious, Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury on a Law Enforcement Officer, 2nd degree Kidnapping, Assault on a Female, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Lieutenant Harris has been with the force since December 1992 and was assigned to the Steele Creek area.
Following protocol, Lt. Harris and two other officers involved in the shooting - Sergeant Jonathan Steppe and Officer Jon Carroll - have been placed in paid administrative leave.
Sergeant Steppe has been employed with the CMPD since August 08, 2008 and Officer Carroll has been employed since February 23, 2015.
