HAVELOCK, N.C. -- Some Havelock residents are feeling a little safer after a six-foot long alligator was relocated on Monday.
Resident Jesse Hickman saw the gator near his house and called North Carolina wildlife officers.
They used a culvert trap to hold the alligator.
Hickman says he wasn't expecting to find an alligator next to his home.
"When I pulled in the driveway, it looked like I saw a plastic bag. I thought the wind had blew a plastic bag. When I got a little closer I saw that it was an alligator sitting up there. So, I called 911," said Jesse Hickman, Havelock resident.
Officials were able to release the alligator back into the wild far away from residents. They say alligators are on the move this time of year because it's mating season.
Last year, two alligators were spotted in the Havelock area.
