NORTH CAROLINA-- CVS Pharmacies in North Carolina will soon offer naloxone, an opoid overdose reversal medicine. The drug will cost between $40 to $50 and you won't need a prescription to buy it.

CVS Pharmacy currently offers naloxone in 15 states and will add 20 states, including North Carolina, in 2016.

New Hanover County Program Director for Coastal Horizons Center, Pamela Morrison, said with heroin on the rise, this drug could save many lives.

"It can bring them from overdosing and potentially dying, to being able to get medical care and get help for their addiction," said Morrison.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center treated more than 800 opioid overdose cases in 2015, just another example of the nationwide opioid epidemic.
