WILMINGTON -- No charges will be filed in a deadly shooting at a Wilmington motel that occurred last month.
The district attorney's office announced the killing was justified during a news conference on Monday.
Police say 36-year-old Damiera Tiesman was shot and killed at the Carolinian Inn on Market Street on Nov. 29.
The DA's office says Tiesman burst into the motel room with a loaded gun and attacked Alfonza Jenkins Jr.
The two men fought over the gun and Tiesman was shot several times.
District Attorney Ben David says Jenkins acted in self defense and it's time to clean up the area.
"And I say this to my entire community, that the market street corridor, and particularly some of the hotels and motels that have been operating there, need to clean up their act or we're going to do it for them," said New Hanover Co. District Attorney Ben David.
Businesses will receive a notification letter and could face penalties if criminal activity patterns do not improve.
