The Wilmington community can once again add local history to their homes. After 9 years, the Historic Wilmington Foundation has reopened the Legacy Architectural Salvage. Mayor Bill Saffo was in attendance for a ribbon cutting Wednesday morning. Shoppers can expect to find material from commercial and residential buildings such as old doors, windows, and sinks. The foundation says the salvage is a good opportunity for homeowners, but also good for the environment.
"We are keeping architectural elements from historic buildings out of the waste stream when there's no other choice but to have a building demolished,” said Historic Wilmington Foundation Executive Director, George Edwards.
The Historic Wilmington Foundation also plans to offer training classes for youth that focus on the construction and rehabilitation of historic buildings.
