CUMBERLAND COUNTY -- Nicholas Holbert will spend the rest of his life behind bars with no chance for parole.
Last year he confessed to the 2012 kidnapping and killing of Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux. The pair was last seen leaving Froggy Bottoms Bar together that fateful night.
A two-year investigation led to the arrest of Holbert after police say he was the last person to see her. Holbert originally claimed he dropped Bordeaux off at her apartment when leaving the bar in 2012.
An autopsy revealed Holbert killed Bordeaux by striking her in the head with his hands and rocks.
Bordeaux's mother spoke to her daughter's killer in court on Friday.
"I was taught not to hate anyone. I was always taught to dislike. But you Mr. Holbert, I hate. You took something so precious from me," said Johnna Henson, Bordeaux's mother.
Bordeaux's remains were recovered in a shallow grave in a wooded area along I-295, just miles from the bar, in May of 2014.
