A new FDNY cadet program meant to promote diversity is coming under fire.
The program would allow up to 100 city high school kids to function as firefighter trainees for two years - putting them on a fast track into the job.
The cadets would work roughly 20 hours a week and get paid $14 an hour.
It's supposed to attact minorities to the FDNY.
But the Daily News is reporting that the firefighters union is worried it might become a hotbed for nepotism.
Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro will testify in favor of the proposal at a meeting on Monday.
