CHARLOTTE -- Congressman Robert Pittenger calmly addressed the media after a town hall event on Tuesday night after it was revealed that the FBI is investigating a real estate company he founded.
Agents requested information from Pittenger land investments back in April.
Pittenger says the company fully complied but hasn't heard from investigators since, and he says he doesn't know exactly what federal agents are looking for.
He says he cut ties from the company after he was elected to Congress in 2012, but his wife is the current CEO.
He says that move was approved by the ethics committee but maintains he still has no knowledge of the details around the federal probe.
According to the company's website, PLI has acquired and invested in excess of $250 million of undeveloped land in the middle Tennessee, Charlotte, Austin and South Carolina coastal areas.
