Australian surfer Mick Fanning was competing in the J-Bay Open in South Africa when two sharks started circling him. The sharks shoved fanning off of his board, he disappeared for a few moments, then resurfaced frantically swimming away.
A rescue jetski was able to quickly scoop him up out of the water.
The three-time World League champion was unharmed and the rest of the event was canceled.
Fanning and fellow competitor Julian Wilson both agreed to accept second place in the final, splitting both the points and the prize money.
