BURGAW—The Burgaw police chief has resigned.
Town leaders say chief Montrina Sutton turned in her resignation earlier this week. This comes after Sutton was placed on a two week disciplinary related suspension last month.
Officials say the suspension was the result of a violation of personnel policy. Former chief Wayne Briley will continue serving as acting chief.
Meanwhile, following a review of the police department's organizational structure, the town cut the major and captain positions within the department in order to reorganize.
Maj. Lisa Fields and Capt. Michael Garrison were terminated last week.
