NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. -- A group of New Hanover County teens were given a hands-on lesson about the dangers of driving.

On Saturday,  New Hanover Regional Medical Center and a North Carolina non-profit organization called StreetSafe hosted a lifesaving summer event.

The teens participated in three behind-the-wheel courses that reinforced the consequences of speeding, changing road conditions, and driving distracted.

"Some people can learn by-- by hearing something, some have to do it. Well we-- at Street Safe they get to hear it, they see it, and they get to do. So we can-- hopefully leave a good impact with them-- something they can carry with them as they hit the road.,” said Scott Fitzgerald, the program coordinator of StreetSafe.
