NEW BERN, N.C. --  A new state report shows a New Bern Memory Care Unit had lapses in patient care and patients living in unsanitary conditions, according to the New Bern Sun Journal.

The Courtyards of Berne Village Memory Care closed down about two weeks ago and nearly two dozen residents were forced to find new homes. They all have some kind of dementia.

The newly released report found issues with sanitation and cleanliness, as well as deficiencies in management, resident rights’ violations and lack of personal care and supervision.

Courtyards at Berne Village said it's in the process of making the needed improvements and has submitted a plan to deal with the state's concerns.
