WILMINGTON -- It's a race against the clock as the Save UNCW Track and Field group works to raise $250,000 by May 31.

It's truly been a team fundraising effort as members of the Wilmington community and passionate runners from out of state have stepped up to help them reach their goal.

UNCW Track and Field team member Molly Love said she can't imagine her college career without the program.

"Being so far away from home, having that team atmosphere is really what made everything better and made me not feel like I was so far away from home. So track has connected with me deep here from the get go," said Love.

Love is also part of the "Save UNCW Track" group. So far they've raised $137,000 with the help of many Wilmington community members and businesses.

"Then you have people that have no affiliation with UNCW and just feel for us because they're passionate about track. So that's a wonderful and amazing feeling to have all that support from everyone," said Love.

Also supporting the group is Momentum Athletics and Fitness. On Saturday, the gym is hosting a Grand Reopening Party from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., where people will have the opportunity to pay $15 to participate in a charity workout for "Save UNCW Track."

Momentum Athletics and Fitness Coach, Brad Dake said, "It'll be kind of a hybrid hurricane type of workout. So lot of body weight exercises but a few weights mixed in there and whole lot of good cardio to keep everybody charged up."

It's a workout for a good cause.

And with the help and support of so many, Love is more than confident they'll make it to the fundraising finish line in time.

"We're more than halfway there and not a doubt in my mind that we're going to get to that goal," said Love.

They'll also have to secure a minimum of $800,000 by next February. That money will go toward renovating track and field facilities.
