CAMP LEJEUNE- The North Carolina Utilities Commission gave Duke Energy approval to build a new solar farm aboard Camp Lejeune.

The 80 acre facility is expected to go online this year. It will be the utility's first solar facility at a military base. It will help both the Navy and Marine Corps to meet their renewable energy needs.

It is expected to use around 55,000 solar panels and generate 13 megawatts of electricity.

Duke Energy is expected to build three other solar projects as part of its $500 million solar expansion across the state.
