ONSLOW COUNTY -- The Onslow County School Board is moving forward with plans to build a new Dixon Middle School.

At a meeting on Thursday, the board approved a bid to start construction on the foundation. The 150,000 square foot building will feature 45 classrooms and 14 resource rooms. It will have a capacity of 950 students.

That's 350 more than the current school building can hold.

"We just have a county who is growing. And we have a lot of students, and the capacity of some of our older schools is just not able to keep up with the growth," said Suzie Ulbrich of Onslow Co. Schools.

The $32 million project should be finished in June of 2017.
