HAVELOCK, N.C. -- The new $2.2 million Havelock City Hall opens up to the public on Friday. It’s just a few feet away from the nearly 70-year-old city hall building.
"The good news about this building is that it basically brings all the services from the city into a single location. So it’s more customer friendly than before,” said Havelock City Manager Frank Bottorff.
It allows people to make one stop for all their needs, which wasn’t the case with the old building.
"Planning was in a different building. Water was in a different building. Admin was in city hall. Now they’ll all be incorporated into this building. So we’ve incorporated about five or six additional office spaces. So kind of brought all the primary staff into a single building," said Bottorff.
Havelock city offices were closed on Thursday, as staff transitioned into the new building.
Bottorff said the new city hall is much for functional for city leaders.
"But more importantly from the customer service side is significantly better," said Bottorff.
The city borrowed $1.7 million for the project, which they will pay back over the next 30 years. They also received a $100,000 grant for the building.
