LELAND, N.C. — Nearly 450 coastal runners participated in the second annual Beethoven Race at Brunswick Forest on Sunday.

The race consisted of a 5k and a 15k run and all proceeds will go to the Wilmington Symphony and its youth education programs. Organizers said participation increased 20 percent from the inaugural Beethoven race last year.

One young runner posted her personal best time in the race and she doesn't plan on stopping.

"I want to be the top girl for the cross country team at Ashley High School and I really want to be a marathon runner. A famous marathon runner,” said Paxton Chitty.

Chitty finished in sixth place overall. She said she wants to run for the UNC Chapel Hill cross country team one day. The overall winner was Todd Fischer, with a time of 19 minutes and 42 seconds.
