The New York Times is shaking up how it covers local elections.

After ending its 160-year tradition of endorsing candidates in city races, the paper's Opinion section is now spotlighting a different approach.

On Thursday, the Times introduced a group of 15 everyday New Yorkers who assessed the top nine Democratic mayoral candidates, weighing in on who's best on issues such as housing, public safety and education.

Patrick Healy, deputy opinion editor at the Times, joined "Mornings On 1" to explain the shift.
