After taking down the reigning champion Boston Celtics last series, the New York Knicks have a legitimate shot at an NBA title this year, says Casey Powell, also known as “CP The Fanchise” from his KnicksFanTV channel on YouTube.

Speaking with “Mornings On 1” ahead of Game 1 Wednesday, however, Powell warned that the Indiana Pacers won’t just roll over for the Knicks. If they want to move on to the finals, he said it’ll need to start with tough-nosed Knicks defense.

“Their defense against Boston in that last game was very commendable in that their communication was very sharp,” Powell said. “They’re going to need that for a full 48 minutes against this Pacer team.”

As for how New York City has rallied around the team, which hasn’t won an NBA title in more than 50 years, Powell said that Knicks fans’ love for the team runs deep.

“The Knick fan is the most loyal fan in all of sports. I say that with all sincerity, and you’re seeing it now with these celebrations,” Powell said, referring to the gigantic watch parties that have cropped up outside Madison Square Garden.

Tipoff for Game 1 is set for 8 p.m. Wednesday.
