RALEIGH -- You're engaged, now what? That's the question more than 2 million Americans find themselves asking each year. It's a multi-billion dollar business but wedding planning can be time consuming, stressful and even confusing.
We sat down with wedding coordinator Diane Tighe for a breakdown of the wedding planning essentials. Tighe is an expert in the field, acting as Director of Catering & Conference Services for the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club and JB Duke Hotel.
Here's a breakdown of what Tighe says is essential to remember when planning your wedding:
Choose your vendors – most can’t do more than one wedding a weekend:
- Reception planner – is there someone at reception location that should be involved?
- Officiant
- Caterer: On site or off-site catering, style of catering, plated, buffet, stations/heavy hors oeuvres, bar options
- Florist: bridal bouquet, bridal party attendants, alter pieces, wedding cake enhancement, reception décor
- Cake
- Entertainment: DJ or band?
- Photographer
- Transportation
Choose a dress code/attire and make sure your guests are aware in advance.
Choosing your Matron/Maid of Honor and wedding party.
- Be specific in what you want from your wedding party as a support system and day off assistance
How many attendants will you be inviting?
- Exact dates and schedules for wedding weekend events
- Rehearsals: Ceremony and rehearsal dinner
