EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — After the U.S. Justice Department launched an investigation earlier this month to assess whether the University of California has engaged in discrimination practices or patterns, UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk announced Monday a new Initiative to Combat Antisemitism.

"Through this initiative, UCLA will implement recommendations of the Task Force to Combat Antisemitism and Anti-Israeli Bias," said Frenk in his statement to the university Monday. "These recommendations include: enhancing relevant training and education, improving the complaint system, assuring enforcement of current and new laws and policies, and cooperating with stakeholders."

Frenk said that UCLA Anderson School of Management Professor Stuart Gabriel will lead the group that “brings together members of our Bruin community and civic leaders from diverse backgrounds, faiths and perspectives.” Gabriel will report to Frenk.

The DOJ announced its investigation into UC on March 5.

"The investigation will assess whether UC has engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination based on race, religion and national origin against its professors, staff and other employees by allowing an Antisemitic hostile work environment to exist on its campuses," the DOJ's press release stated earlier this month.
