BUFFALO, N.Y. — A program that helps prepare Buffalo teenagers for college is running into challenges because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

UB's Upward Bound Program helps 9th to 12th graders from several Buffalo Public Schools.

Many of those students have parents who never went to college. So the program provides tutors, college tours, and application prep. The program typically recruits students by going to schools. But because of the pandemic, they can't do that.

Upward Bound wants teens to know they are still up and running.

"A lot of our seniors right now are anxious. I mean, figuring out what's going on with the regents exams, figuring out how they get credits, how do they get letters of recommendation, how do they get volunteer hours to graduate. Let alone visiting colleges and universities at this point in time. But they will persevere, they will get it done," said Caitlin Scully-Gallaher of the Upward Bound program.
