COLUMBIA, S.C -- South Carolina officials say the solar eclipse is one of the biggest things ever to happen to this state. It's also one of the biggest things they've ever had to plan for.
After years of planning for the Great American Total Eclipse, emergency officials say SC is prepared for this historical event.
The who's who of emergency officials held a news conference Thursday at the State Emergency Operations Center to send a message to residents and visitors.
More than a million people are expected to pack the Palmetto state, along that 70-mile swath to view the total eclipse.
There is expected to be congestion and delays.
Special glasses are critical for looking up during the partial eclipse. The City of Columbia has purchased 100,000 to hand out.
The overall message - they're ready. Now, they just now need the people to come, and the skies to clear up. IN Columbia, SFlynn SN
