Mike Dunston is an Emmy Award-winning anchor on Spectrum News North Carolina.
He is no stranger to the state as his paternal grandfather’s family has deep roots in North Carolina.
Mike started his media career as a news aide at The Washington Post while earning his journalism degree from the University of Maryland at College Park.
Before coming to Spectrum News, Mike brought Triangle viewers breaking news and other stories as the weekend evening co-anchor for WTVD.
For several years, he's volunteered his time at North Carolina A&T State University as an instructor for the NABJ Multimedia Short Course. He's also one of the founding anchors of iHeartMedia's Black Information Network and has worked for television stations in Ohio, Texas, Florida, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta.
Mike also serves on the volunteer board of Our House, a charity that helps people and families experiencing homelessness with services to get them on the path to self-sufficiency.
Mike has been featured in newscaster roles for the TBS comedy series "Miracle Workers," the HBO series "The Outsider," the Oprah Winfrey Network’s "Greenleaf," “Queen Sugar” as well as movies "Brightburn" and "Shaft."
