RANDLEMAN, N.C. — A new distribution center will bring nearly a thousand jobs to a section of North Carolina seeing lots of economic growth.

What You Need To Know

  • Ross Stores Inc. will bring more than 800 jobs to Randleman

  • A North Carolina job development grant is helping to make the project possible

  • State leaders say over the 12-year term of this grant the project will grow the state’s economy by $1.4 billion

Ross Stores Inc. selected Randleman, about 20 miles south of Greensboro, for its ninth distribution center.

That's just 15 miles from the site of the Toyota battery manufacturing site, which is expected to create about 5,000 jobs.

“With over 800 jobs, it's going to definitely impact the whole area,” Donna Frazier said when speaking on how the center will help the Randleman area.

Frazier opened her restaurant in 2012 in honor of her mother who passed away. She says the distribution center will mean she can welcome more customers to her tables.

The closing of two big companies in the area left many people without jobs,

Randolph County Business Recruitment Director Crystal Gettys says this was important in attracting Ross.

“Our regional workforce was one of the deciding factors of the Ross Stores Inc., and why they chose our location because of our labor and availability to labor,” she said.

For Frazier this might allow her to expand her hours and hire more people.

“Depending on their hours and everything, there's a possibility maybe nights or something like that right there,” Frazier said.

Mayor Gary Betts is grateful Ross chose the Randleman site.

“It's an investment of $450 million,” Betts said. "It'll be a 1.7 million square-foot warehouse, and it will bring the economic value as far as the tax revenue for the city of Randleman, without impeding on our Randleman lifestyle that we have."
