  • Last year 90,000 people visited the botanical garden

Vogue magazine named it as one of the best 12 botanical gardens in the U.S.

Jason Bonham is the director of horticulture at the botanical garden in Belmont.

“We are picking out the plants. We are sourcing them. We are planting them. We are pulling them when they are ready to go and designing over and over and over again,” Bonham said.

There are 30 acres with gardens, garden trails, fountains and an 8,000-foot conservatory.

“It’s one of the largest conservatories in this region,” Bonham said.

The conservatory has a wide variety of plants from orchids to tropical plants.

“The silk floss trees are amazing for all sorts of various reasons. The spines on the tree are very cool, and it flowers, and it has this giant pink-like orchid flowers,” Bonham said.

The magnificent display and other offerings of this botanical garden caught the eye of Vogue, with the publication listing it as one of the best of the country.

“We love the publicity. We work hard to make this place amazing, and I’m glad they saw it,” Bonham said.

Visitors like Amy Pischel say the recognition is well deserved.

“We know it’s a great place to show our kids different plants and run around. And it’s very pretty, and that’s why we came,” Pischel said.

Last year, 90,000 people visited this botanical garden, and Bonham hopes this year they welcome even more.

“Our biggest hope is that we inspire love of nature in anybody who comes here. There should be something for every age, every generation,” Bonham said.

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden has vegetation for all four seasons.

Private events, concerts, 5K races, summer camps and a holiday light show also take place here.

The property is 380 acres, and the goal is to eventually use the entire area to provide an unforgettable outdoor experience.
