Purdue topped the Wolfpack 63-50 on Saturday night. No matter the outcome, many are excited about the future from a Saturday block party in the Pack's honor on campus.

The magical run that reminded many students and fans of the 1983 season, when Jim Valvano’s team won the national championship, did not come to fruition on Saturday night.

Despite the ending, the ride through the tournament was the most enjoyable part for many of these fans.

“Oh my God, it feels so good. We have been waiting on this a long time it feels like,” Madison Farmer said.

Four decades to be exact.

Despite visuals of hands raised and cheering at a block party hosted by Mitch’s Tavern, most of the evening was characterized by long looks on faces as the Boilermakers got the best of the beloved Pack.

“The fact that an 11 seed was in the Final Four and this close to bringing it back home was crazy,” Emmanuel Khalil said.

The evening was also a touch of nostalgia and enthusiasm from fans, some perched in trees as they watched the final seconds of the season's final game.

Kayle Knapp, a junior student at Meredith College studying interior design, said she was drawn to the Wolfpack’s run at history.

“My friend has been a Wolfpack fan her whole life and she kind of converted me over and all the community and everyone here. I just love it so I came to support,” Knapp said.

As day turned to night, many in the crowd walked away with their heads held high.

Matthew Gernat, an N.C. State senior, was proud to witness such a team get hot in his final semester on campus.

“We love you guys and thank you for giving us such an amazing memory. We’ve enjoyed it so much. You guys giving it all, and we love you!” Gernat said.
