You have until April 15 to file your taxes

Volunteers across the state can help prepare and submit taxes for free through Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) through April 15.

Individuals 60 years and older are eligible for TCE. Those making $64,000 or less, people with disabilities and those who speak limited English are eligible for VITA.

Community Link in Charlotte is one nonprofit offering free walk-in service.

"Coming to receive this service that you have to do anyway and to pay nothing for it, but to have the conversation, receive the education from a certified IRS tax preparer, it's invaluable," said Community Link President and CEO Tameka Gunn.

Gunn says miles traveled during self employment, supplies teachers bought for the classroom and receipts on childcare are all things you would want to bring in for a tax preparer.

TCE and VITA services are happening all across the state. You can find the service using your zip code here
