CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte man who made national headlines this week for his work on a revitalization project is encouraging other North Carolinians to give back to their communities.

What You Need To Know

  • A Charlotte designer helped in a revitalization project in New York that was featured on the "Today" show

  • The effort received support from North Carolina-based home improvement retailer Lowe's

  • ClayVon Lowe, a senior design director for Lowe's, encourages others to help revitalize their own communities

ClayVon Lowe appeared this week on the "Today" show, where he showcased the project that received help from home improvement giant Lowe’s.

“The design was worked on by my internal team to revitalize a space for a transitional housing facility in the Bronx," said Lowe, senior director product design and trends for Mooresville-based Lowe’s. "And it’s just important to give back and revitalize and rebuild the community where we serve."

The Lowe’s Hometowns grant program helps revitalize community spaces such as food pantries, veteran support programs, first responder facilities, affordable housing services and community gardens.

“We work to make homes and hometowns better for all people,” said Lowe, who earned his master's and bachelor's degrees at N.C. State.

He says one North Carolina project in the Hometowns program was close to his heart.

“Recently, we did a project in Reidsville, North Carolina, where we revitalized the sports facility at Reidsville High School, so being from Rockingham County, that project really stood out to me,” he said.

Project nominations to the Hometowns program are being accepted through Feb. 19. Click here to submit a nomination.
