RALEIGH, N.C. — As we near New Year celebrations, Talk It Out NC is urging parents to speak to their teens about impaired driving.
December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month.
Between 2018 and 2022, there were more than 5,000 teen car crashes involving alcohol in North Carolina.
Rodney Poole is a program coordinator with Talk It Out NC. He shares his own sober living journey, traveling to speak with teenagers about the pitfalls of excess drinking. He says it is crucial for parents to speak with the teenagers about the dangers of drunken driving.
"Kids want to hear it from their parents," Poole said. "They are hearing it on TikTok, they are seeing images on social media and Instagram, but what are parents saying? So we have to encourage those parents to have the conversation."
