That was one day after a confirmed tornado slammed into that community.

Lee Gordon has lived in that neighborhood for over 30 years. He was there in 1996 during the onslaught of Hurricane Fran. He feels the damage from Sunday’s tornado beats that.

“We lived through Fran here. But the damage is worse than Fran was," he said.

His home suffered minor damage, but two sheds and a fence behind his house were completely destroyed after several large trees fell.

“You watch it on TV. You see it somewhere else, but the firsthand experience, it’s different, “ Gordon said.

Garner inspectors found at least four homes were no longer safe for people to live in.

The American Red Cross is helping people in the community recover.
