CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The ghost of the last person who lived above The Tavern still haunts the premises, or at least that's how the story goes this Halloween.

Timothy Nurse is one of the hosts organizing the haunted house pop-up in Charlotte called Morehead Haunted Tavern.

"We think about things that are happening in other cities and said, 'why not bring it to Charlotte?'" Nurse said. "Pop-ups are something that doesn't really happen too often here in the city. Things of this magnitude are very beneficial — brings the city together."

The haunted house is opening two hours early on Halloween, at 5:00p.m., for a kid friendly experience. Kids under 12 can enter for free, with adult tickets going for $20.

So far, hundreds of locals have dared to enter the doors. Nurse says the venue took about three days to put together with the help of an outside company.

"[It's] a spooky but fun vibe. Each room is a little bit scary, but also, you get a little thrill or excitement as you walk through," Nurse said.

Morehead Haunted Tavern is donating $500 of its proceeds to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Carolinas. Nurse says they are also asking visitors to bring in toys and games to go to the one-on-one mentoring organization.

"I was a little brother, if you will, as a youth and I needed a big brother in my life and I was impacted back home," Nurse said. "I feel, personally, it's beneficial to give back to the people here in Charlotte."

The Tavern starts serving creepy-crafted cocktails at 6:00 p.m., with a live DJ starting at 8:00 p.m.
