During Blank’s life, she had many notable achievements and one that stands out for many UW students is Bucky’s Tuition Promise. Bucky’s Tuition Promise guarantees scholarships and grants to in-state students who come from a household that makes less than $65,000 or less a year.

Jasmine Phung is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin and she said if it weren’t for Bucky’s Tuition Promise, she might not be attending UW-Madison.

“All of the other colleges I was thinking of going to I immediately dropped them and then I knew I wanted to go to Madison because who cares about how accredited a university is, I am going here and this is a really good university and I am getting out debt free,” said Phung.

While Phung was applying for college, she was worried about how much her parents would have to pay because her brother is also attending university.

“Sometimes I just think about how hard it would be for my parents to pay for my tuition and my tuition too and then next year I have an apartment too,” said Phung. Thanks to Bucky’s Tuition Promise, Phung is able to relax and enjoy the college experience.

“It is really nice because right now I can just focus on school and then I plan to work in the summer to get money when there is no school,” said Phung. “I don’t feel the need to do work and school to keep up and help out my parents.”

Bucky’s Tuition Promise helped to make Phung’s dream come true, and she hopes to be teaching Wisconsin’s youth after graduation.
