RALEIGH, N.C. — If you’re a Raleigh resident, Goodnights Comedy Club is sure to ring a bell, but it's new location won’t. Just a few feet underground is where echoes of laughter are sure to be all too frequent.

Goodnights Comedy Club is now open after moving to Raleigh’s Village District

The comedy club moved from its longtime West Morgan Street location

The new location offers VIP box seating and new audio system

Co-owner Brad Grossman and his brother — both born and raised in Philadelphia — own Helium Comedy Club. It's the parent company of comedy clubs in Portland, Austin, Texas, St. Louis and this Raleigh staple, which was at its previous West Morgan Street location since 1983.

"We had been looking for a space for a long time. We knew that the old building needed some love, and it would be time to do some significant updates to a building that was 100 years old," Grossman said.

Grossman says this new location is more spacious than the previous one with features like an advanced audio system and private VIP box seating.

But, rest assured, Grossman says Goodnights’ history and legacy isn’t going anywhere.

“I mean this is one of the oldest clubs in America," he said. "There’s only a handful of them that still exist. Everybody played there, Seinfeld, you can go through the list, Ellen DeGeneres.”

As Raleigh continues to grow and develop, Grossman says he cares deeply about preserving what makes this comedy club an institution.

“I support the development in some capacity, which is like we need new spaces, we need new restaurants," Grossman said. "We need, let’s bring some life. At the same time, how do we keep some of that historic value in the city so we don’t kind of forget that?"

Goodnights Comedy Club’s new location in Raleigh is at 401 Woodburn Road. The club officially re-opened Jan. 18 with a live album recording of comedian Helen Wildy.
