DUBLIN, Ohio — Whether it's securing credentials or making sure the pros get to the place they need to be, former OSU student and golf enthusiast, Nico Franano, is the guy to go to.
The Powell resident began volunteering for the Memorial Tournament eight years ago.
"I wanted to do my part to give back and really help present what's a great week for Dublin and our community,” Franano said.
For his efforts, Franano was named the 2022 Volunteer of the Year with the Muirfield Village Golf Club.
“The attitude for the courtesy car committee is really, you know, the answer is yes, what's the question, what problem can we solve and make life easier for the players as they come in to have a great week here at Muirfield," Franano said. "We're responsible for helping with logistics and getting friends and family to and from the course."
The husband and father was humbled by being named volunteer of the year.
“Absolutely, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I found out about it, a week or so before the volunteer party," Franano said. "I can list a dozen folks I think are more deserving. I'm just really excited to work with just a great team out here."
Although Franano, who owns his own consulting firm, didn't grow up in Ohio, he's embraced the Central Ohio community over the last three decades and he's proud to continue volunteering at the Memorial Tournament for years to come.
“It's been a very welcoming community, and it's been a place that my family's really enjoyed," Franano said. "Can't think of a place I would rather call home. I'm thrilled when we have volunteers join us to help make this one of the preeminent stops on the PGA Tour."
